When does school start for you??? I go back in 2 weeks! For the first month in Kinderworld, we do a quick review of all the letters A-Z. When I start the Daily 5, we focus on 1-2 letters a week.
For Word Work during The Daily 5, I use the following 2 Packs: 1. My ABC Handout Book 2. ABC Practice Pages.
Both Packs can be used in several ways:
1.Use a page a day as morning work.
2.Create a journal and use it during small group instruction.
3.use the pages/journal during the DAILY 5 for Word Work.
4.Use the pages/journal as a literacy center.
5.Use it as ABC review in the beginning of the school year.
I have seen so many cute BULLETIN BOARDS! I must admit, as much as I love them, I have a really hard time finding time to change them weekly or monthly.
A veteran teacher gave me the best advise when I first started teaching..."Work Smarter Not Harder."
So as much as I love creating adorable bulletin boards, I have saved time with simple ones.
In the beginning of the year, I created a giant area with fadeless blue paper and western border to match the Western theme in my room. I decided I would keep this paper up all year (again to save time) and just change the class work. Below are some of the bulletin boards I created in my class this year.
For the first week of school (August), I simply put up a Western WELCOME banner and poster.
I forget to take a picture of my December board. We learned about Holidays Around the World and made adorable reindeers flying around the world. Next year I will remember to take a picture.
For New Years, we created adorable "Selfies" holding a giant i-Pod (January).
For the 100th Day, we created Grannie and Grandpa's..."What we will look like when we are 100 years old" (February). The portrait idea is from Deanna Jump's 100th Day unit on TPT.
We also created a class book "Look What We Can Build with 100th Legos."
We put 100 sprinkles on a cupcake, 100 toppings in a pizza and 100 gum-balls in a gum-ball machine.
While researching animals, the kids worked in groups to create posters about a specific animals (March). I simply put the posters on the bulletin board.
For Saint Patrick's Day, we made these lucky little Leprechauns (March). Again, I forgot to take a picture, but this was the art project that was used.
In April, we learned all about plants. These adorable flowers actually flip up and have plant facts underneath. Open House was in April at our school, so this was a perfect bulletin board...
"Come See How Much We've Grown!"
In May, we learned all about opinions and facts. I got this AMAZING and cute idea from
Oceans of First Grade Fun HERE.
She actually has these printables for FREE on her blog too!!!
I made the images of the animals on the poster.
A great way to help your sweeties during the writing process is to help remind them to use their WRITER'S EYE! I created my own BEE-U-TIFUL Western Themed Posters on TPT for my class. (Note: I will be creating other themes soon too!).
There are nine posters in this pack. Each colorful poster has an example sentence and picture to help your students. The nine posters include: *I see CAPITAL LETTERS *I see PUNCTUATION *I see FINGER SPACES *I see NEAT WRITING *I see LOWERCASE LETTERS *I see DETAILS *I see sentences IN ORDER *I see correct spelling from the WORD WALL*I see a BEGINNING, MIDDLE, and END A Writer's Eye Checklist is included in this pack too!! Your students can keep the checklist in their writing folders to help them during the writing process.
I am so excited there is a way to safely show YouTube videos in my class without without worrying about the ads and inappropriate content that may pop up in the beginning!!!
SafeShare is a website that takes YouTube videos and gets rid of almost ALL of the advertisements and inappropriate content around the main video. Safeshare even removes the ads that are often showed before popular videos. All you do is copy the YouTube link and paste it into Safeshare.tv(see image below). Then you are given a new link to use instead of the YouTube link.

I just learned about an amazing new site called RUBISTAR where teachers can create FREE educational rubrics for their class!!!
Rubistaris very simple and easy to use. To create a rubric on Rubistar, just choose your topic from the list provided there and select a template from its gallery and fill in your info. In Kinderworld, we have been working on digital storytelling using the Felt Board app. The students need to create a setting, characters, problem and solution on one page on the ipad. I just wasn't sure how to assess this so I created a rubric on Rubistar. First, I selected WRITING as the rubric focus. Then I clicked on STORYTELLING. After, I was given several options to create a personalized rubric for my class. This is a screen shot of the rubric I created.
When I was finished, I simply clicked SUBMIT and WAHLAH! My rubric was created!

I give each student a bag of 50 LEGOS and let them build away!
The next day, we create a class book.
At the end of the day, we celebrate with a Mock Drive-In and have Root Beer and Popcorn! We made Ford Mustangs from card board for the kids to sit in. You can also just let them sit in empty boxes.
We watch a movie made in the 1950s.
Here is a list of G movies made in the 1950s:
Cinderella
Peter Pan
Alice in Wonderland
Sleeping Beauty
My New Favorite: Teen Beach Movie!!! The kids go back to the 1950s (and it's rated G)
